Cesar Izturis and Rickie Weeks Safety Squeeze Fail

Situation: Bottom 2, one out, 0-0 count, runner at 3rd, Milwaukee up 1-0
Pitcher: Jordan Lyles
Batter: Cesar Izturis
Runner on 3rd: Rickie Weeks

Leverage index: 1.3
Win probability added: -8.7%

When a team runs a squeeze per week, you’re bound to see some interesting plays… Izturis has failed at the squeeze before, although he’s not the main culprit here. It’s not a great bunt, but at least it’s to the pitcher’s left, making it a difficult throw to the plate. Weeks apparently made a terrible read on it, and then tried to pull the little-league play. Give credit to Jose Altuve for a quick release on the return throw to the plate.

Dandy Squeeze Score (what’s this?): -4 (-1, fail; -3, double play)
